Atlantic Basin 大西洋 與 太平洋

This article is an example of the kind of outdated arrogance that is why I don't spend much time on the Atlantic basin. It is a fussy article no doubt written by a New York-based writer who is upset that Michelin guide gave 3 stars to a New York restaurant which is clearly a "step down" from the Paris restaurant (sniff sniff). Who cares? Some guy thinks he is a star food 'artist' and so can charge enormous prices for very little. They are proud of themselves but it is primarily by their own standards, which rarely include taste.

But at a deeper level, the North Atlantic still thinks of itself as the center of the world that it once was. You can still hear it echoed in the underlying assumption that its values and interests should be what the world values and is interested in. But the world is changing. We may have earthquakes on the Pacific basin but that is the sound of creativity shaking things up.

Uh, I think you might be confusing the United States for the "North Atlantic" in your second paragraph.

And (I'm guessing) you don't spend much time in the "Atlantic basin" because you no longer have any relatives there.

As for your characterization of the New York food critic as "arrogant" and unworthy of anyone's "care," I'd ask "are you just noticing this now?" That's like complaining about the ocean because there's salt in the water. In response to your observation, I'd ask "who cares if you think the critic is arrogant?"

Finally, you may want to take a look at an elementary geology text book. The Pacific Basin is prone to earthquakes because God hates the Lakers, not because of shaking creativity.

Dear just me,

It is gratifying to know that you are reading again. It was just a rant. I get frustrating seeing people with their pants down who think they are at the center of the world

....but your point is well taken. As one coworker said to another who was complaining about an article in the International Herald Tribune, "the only person dumber than the one who writes an article about plastic pink flamingos is the one who reads it all the way through."
